Web22 jun. 2024 · Rebuilding a rack needs serious equipment & expertise. The rack has in total 8 replaceable DIY seals. 6 of them are on the thin lines from the rack to th pinion. The other 2 are at the joint of the rack with the high pressure & return lines. If the leak is from one of those 8 seals, then you are lucky & they can be replaced by yourself. I remember some early info from Chevy saying the steering gear must be reprogrammed when replaced, yet I've seen plenty of used racks for sale, and even used motor assemblies. In early 2011 & 2012 Dealers were replacing racks due to notchy steering complaints.
