When creating a dRAID vdev, the admin specifies a number of data, parity, and hotspare sectors per stripe. These numbers are independent of the number of actual disks in the vdev. WebI only kind of get it, but it isn't really one huge raidz vdev. It is more like taking your total number of disks and having the parity and hot spares spread out evenly.
