WebI started smoking as a teenager. I started running in my 20's. I ran a marathon in my 30's. In the last six months of training for the marathon my smoking decreased through no conscious effort of my own, I just felt like smoking less, but I never quit. In training for the big race I had plateaued, time-wise. WebMarathon as a smoker: 5:43. Now: 3:59 (and getting faster). Half as a smoker: 2:37. Now 1:44. 10k - never under 50 as a smoker. ... but damn was it tasty! That said, I'd really like to quit at this point.
